Men's perfumes are generally grouped into four main fragrance families. You can start by choosing the family that best suits your skin and personality:

1. Woody

• Character: Strong, charismatic, and masculine.

• Ingredients: Sandalwood, Cedarwood, Vetiver, Patchouli, Amber.

• Ideal time: Winter and autumn months, evening/nighttime use.

• Popular examples: Tom Ford Oud Wood, Dior Homme Intense.

2. Fresh/Aquatic

• Character: Clean, dynamic, and energetic. Predominantly sea breeze and citrus notes.

• Ingredients: Marine notes, Green notes, Grapefruit, Bergamot.

• Ideal time: Spring and summer months, daytime and for sports activities.

• Popular examples: Giorgio Armani Acqua di Gio, Versace Eros (fresh-sweet mix).

3. Aromatic (Aromatic Fougere)

• Character: Classic, shaving foam feel, masculine and clean. Formulated with a blend of lavender and oakmoss.

• Ingredients: Lavender, Rosemary, Sage, Oakmoss, Coumarin.

• Ideal Time: All seasons, office and professional settings.

• Popular examples: Christian Dior Sauvage, Creed Aventus (a modern, fruity interpretation).

4. Oriental/Spicy

• Character: Warm, seductive, intense, and sweetish.

• Ingredients: Vanilla, Cinnamon, Cardamom, Tonka Bean, Resins, Incense.

• Ideal time: Cold winter months, nights out, and romantic dates.

• Popular examples: Paco Rabanne 1 Million, Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb.

3. A Guide to Choosing the Perfect Perfume

1. Test it on your skin: Always test the perfume on your skin . The notes of a perfume react differently with the chemistry of each person's skin. A perfume that smells great on a paper strip may smell completely different on your skin.

2. Allow time: Wait at least 30 minutes after applying perfume. The initial scent (top note) fades quickly. Wait for the middle and base notes, which are the true character of the fragrance, to emerge.

3. Determine your intended use:

   • Work/Office: Fresh, clean, and subdued aromatic or light woody scents.

   • Night/Special Occasion: Intense, captivating, and lasting Oriental or deep Woody EDPs.

   • Summer/Everyday: Light, refreshing Aquatic or Citrus EDTs.

4. Apply to the Right Spots: For longer-lasting perfume, spray on your body's warm spots (pulse points): the inside of your wrists, neck, behind your ears, and the inside of your elbows. These warm areas help the scent spread.

Tip: To avoid tiring your nose while trying perfumes, reset your senses by smelling some coffee beans after every 2-3 scents.
